Safety Policies and Procedures for Birth through Fifth Grade
These apply to ALL ministries that involve children in the above age group.
Rule #1 – “Never alone with children”
No adult should be alone with a child at anytime.
Classrooms:
1. Two adults in every classroom. If this is not possible, leave the door open when you are in the room with the children.
2. Parents are to escort their children to and from their classroom or Children’s Church.
3. Christian Education Teachers will walk their children to the Children’s Church Area and stay with them until they enter that area.
4. Children ages birth through 11 years of age will be signed in and out only by their Parent/Guardian. If a Parental Consent and Liability waiver has been signed, the person designated on that waiver can also sign children in and out.
Bathrooms:
1. Adults should never go into the bathroom alone to assist children. If alone they are to wait at the door until the child exits the bathroom. Children should use the restrooms as a group when possible.
Hallways:
1. No children under the age of 11 years old shall be allowed to be in hallways or classrooms without proper adult supervision.
2. If a child is alone in the hallway or classroom, they are to be escorted back to their parent or legal guardian.
3. Children between the ages of 12 to 18 will not be permitted to loiter in the hallways or classrooms. If they are found doing this, they will be escorted to their destination or to their parent/guardian.
4. Security personnel will be responsible for monitoring hallways during service times and will help direct children and youth to their destinations.
